NEWS ..... for 2008
|
2008 - We moved again! |
|
Yes, we have moved North again - about 200 miles north this time to
Central Florida's Orlando. And the name has changed
for our 21st edition of this tournament, this time to the Florida International.
In
Orlando, there's Disney World, Universal Studios,
Sea World and much, much more to do and see for
all ages, but the same fun and competition during
tournament week.
We will still have a full schedule of bowling
and activities during our week and at the same
entry fee - including a day trip to Florida's east
coast for a day of sightseeing, Space Center,
Friendship Party, the Awards Banquet, shopping at the many outlet malls that
Orlando has to offer and fun and games for the
whole family with our tournament transportation
for all tournament scheduled events.
|
|
The 21st Florida International Tournament started May
3, 2008
with our "Fun Tournament ". 46 bowlers in
divisions of Men, Women, Senior Men and Senior Women - 8 countries
represented - will start competition on Sunday, May
4th.
|
|
The competition will be three days of singles, two days of
doubles - the 30 games of the week will conprise the All
Events. The Top 5 players of each division will go into the
Master's, a stepladder final, for the White Jackets which
will be awarded to the top scoring player in each division.
| The
Scores..... Men's and Women's Divisions as well as
Senior Men's and Women's Divisions will bowl this year.
Returning 2007 Tournament Champions Gregory Hunter of
Jamaica and Yvonne Randell of Ireland will have a fight on
their hands again with the competition in the tournament
this year. Hunter will be bowling again in the Men's
scratch division and Randell will vie for the Senior
Women's title as the women will have both scratch and
Senior divisions this year as will the men. The
divisions other than the Men's scratch will be small but
they will be just as tough to become the top spot on May
9th after the Master's Event. Senior divisions are
handicapped by age with one pin given for every year over
56 and capped at 15 pins.

"Just for
Fun" mini tournament...
To start our week, some fun bowling and fun prizes for
bowlers and guest, of course this also gave a chance to test
the tournament lane conditions, and liked what they saw according
to the scores, which were done this year by Brunswicks's Will
Ehlers. Prizes? - Fun stuff: like bowling themed bowls.
And the Just for Fun tournament
winners were: Men -1st place: Devon Christie, Jamaica; 2nd: Harold
Jablonski, Holland; 3rd: Lindberg Cooper, Bahamas.
Women -1st: Pat Cummins, Ireland; Anya Delancy, Bahamas; 3rd:
Pauline Compton, Ireland.
We
had a busy schedule...
Shopping at the
famous and Discount Outlet Mall shopping, a visit to the Kennedy
Space Center, a fun Welcome Party, and Award Banquet.
And there was all to do and
see in and around the hotel area, and Orlando itself with all its
theme parks and amusements.
We
have said goodbye to South Florida....
It was 20 great years in Miami and Fort Lauderdale
and it saddens us to leave our first home, but.......
We are now settled in to our new home in Orlando, Florida
and the Kissimmee area
and our bowling home at the AMF Kissimmee Lanes, where we hope to
have another great 20 years or more.
Catch the Wave to Fun and Competition
May 2-9. 2009
at the 22nd tournament
Florida International, in Orlando,
Florida.
A Place for fun for the whole family!

|
| You will
want to come before or stay after the tournament
to see the Theme Parks (discounted tickets will be
available as an option for tournament people
with easy transportation available from the
hotel). The special tournament hotel
rate will be honored by our headquarters hotel for
3 days before and/or 3 days after the tournament
hotel stay dates of May 2-11 (and flying mid-week
is always less expensive). Bring the whole
family - where else can you combine great
bowling with a great vacation for all
the family to enjoy!
You will find that most major airlines have
international flights to Orlando's International
Airport to make it easy to come and often bargain
fares are to be found to this city.

Come

a memorable bowling vacation in Florida, the Sunshine
State.
You won't want to miss it! |

Headquarter's
Hotel in Orlando available for our participants |
|
The headquarters hotel and bowling center
has been
chosen. We chose the best value
for the type and the most comfortable hotel
available for your stay in the heart of Orlando's
action and at a distance of no more than
15 miles from the airport or bowling center.
Although you may certainly find a hotel of your
own choosing, keep in mind that our tournament
transportation will run only from our headquarters
hotel which will be at a considerable discount
from their usual rate per room - we will get more
value for our money at the headquarters
hotel.
The Quality Inn Plaza on International Drive will be
our hotel. Their tournament host rate of $69 per
room/per night (plus taxes) for a standard room with two
beds was considerably lower than any other hotel of it's
type. Prices of rooms will apply three days before
and after tournament dates.
The hotel has over 1,00 double rooms in a number of
buildings, 3 pools, and both smoking and non-smoking rooms
available. It's amenities are what we look for
during our long stay - hairdryers, irons, ironing boards,
coffee makers, refrigerators, microwaves and an in-room
safe. In addition, Kids under 11 eat free with
adult, complementary transportation to Sea World,
Universal Studios and Wet-n-Wild, free wireless in lobby,
laundry facilities and even services of transportation and
money changing are available in the lobby.
We searched Orlando's hotels and found that the Quality
Inn Plaza, would fill your needs for a great price and the
tournament staff will be staying there along with
you. Join Us! |
|
Our
New Bowling Home..... |
|
We will be bowling at the
AMF Kissimmee Lanes in Kissimmee, Florida...a bus ride
away from the hotel. The bowling center has 32 lanes
ready and waiting for our tournament and their staff is
just as excited to have us as we are to be going
there. |
|
Plans are being made for
our special activities during the week's evenings.
Our tournament transportation will get us around on our
week-long schedule of bowling and vacation fun.
An evening trip to
Downtown Disney (Disney's shopping and restaurant area)
will be on the schedule. We will still have our party
night and our banquet. But we will leave some time
for you to see the many attractions that Orlando has to
offer. Plan on staying extra days if you want to see
Disney World or Universal Studios or swim with the
Dolphins at Sea World. |
