Tournament of The Americas
NEWSLETTER
On behalf of all of us in the Tournament Office, we would
like to welcome you to another year of great bowling competition
at Don Carter’s Tamarac Lanes.
The
tournament dates are August 11 – 18, 2007: Official
practice is on the afternoon of Saturday, August 11th
– 1 to 3 PM. Opening Ceremonies will follow the practice.
Tamarac
Lanes:
Located
at 8501 North University Drive, Tamarac, Florida.
We will have our tournament office set up at the lanes
during the tournament week.
All Star Pro Shop
is located in Tamarac Lanes and carries the newest bowling
equipment of almost all brands available.
The All Star Pro Shop staff is both friendly and extremely
knowledgeable and can help you with any equipment information or
purchase. We
highly recommend that you get to know Mark Balter, who did our
weighing and checking of equipment last year, and Tony for the
best in pro shop services.
Sawgrass Mills Mall,
over a mile of discount shopping is across from our
headquarters’ hotel. Within
walking distance are over 30 restaurants of all types, a
supermarket, Sam’s Club warehouse shopping, computer and office
supply stores, banks and much in entertainment including a multi-plex
movie theater.
Lane
conditions:
The lane conditions will be under the direction of Brunswick
Bowling and Billiards this year. We will go to long oil /
short oil patterns for each event. Oil patterns will be
sent to all Federations and posted on our website. We expect
to be able to have the patterns available by July 15.
Starting
Lanes:
Starting lanes for the first day of each competition event will be
chosen by drawing numbers during the Delegate/Coaches meeting
on Saturday, August 11th at 10:30 AM at Tamarac Lanes
by selected “Officials” at the Delegates Meeting. This should
make the drawing go faster than last year.
Should no Delegate or team representative be present at the
drawing of your starting lanes or a country has an incomplete
team, the Official will draw from the numbers remaining after all
others have drawn.
Entry
Forms:
All Forms for the Tournament of the Americas are available on our
website, www.bowlingamericas.com,
both for printing and for filing on-line and are being updated as
quickly as possible. ALL FORMS provided must be completely
and accurately filled out with the proper information
including the 2007 Federation Code we will provide to you. If you
let your bowlers, delegate or coaches fill out their own forms,
please remember that they will need the Federation code in order
for us to consider them. Guest
forms and hotel reservations do not need the code.
Complete and
return the National Acceptance Form due July
1, 2007.
All other
forms should be submitted to
the Tournament Office by August 1, 2007.
If this is a
problem because of your national qualifying dates, please contact
the Tournament Office to make other arrangements. Please email us
at toa@bowlingamericas.com
Your
Federation Code:
Because
anyone can copy our forms from our website and submit them, please
use this code on the forms that require it so that we know it is
an official entry. We will verify all names and information
submitted to us from our website by an email to you or fax.
The Federation Code for 2007 is being sent to your
Federation by email.
FEES:
There
is no change in participant
entry
fees. Bowler’s entry fee is $150.00 per bowler. Delegates and
Coaches fee is $75.00. These fees include all tournament
transportation, Award Banquet ticket and scheduled activities.
These fees will NOT include your official shirt. The Official
Tournament Shirt will remain at $35.00 per shirt.
Adult Guest
fees will be $75.00 – this includes our bus transportation,
including hotel shuttle bus, any scheduled activity and one ticket
to our Award Banquet. Adult
guests not using our transportation but attending Award Banquet
will be $50.00.
DELEGATES:
Each
country should have a delegate to handle all of your team's
official business, as well as be members of committees and
represent your Federation/Association at meetings. Although a
delegate may be a bowler, it is very difficult for a person to
perform the delegate duties and bowl as well, since delegate
duties may take place during bowling competition. Please inform
your Delegates that they must be in official tournament uniform
during competition and opening ceremonies.
HOTEL:
Our
official headquarters hotel
will be the Crowne Plaza at Sawgrass Mills, located 12
miles west of the Fort Lauderdale airport.
Maps are available from our website www.bowlingamericas.com
. If using Miami
Airport, the hotel and Sawgrass Lanes are an easy 30 mile drive
north.
They have
offered us a special rate of $105.00 plus 11% Tax per room/per
night for rooms with a maximum of four people sharing the room,
because of the large block of room we have requested. The
tournament rate is the same for single/double/triple or quad room.
All rooms have refrigerators, coffee makers, in-room safe boxes,
hair dryers and irons and ironing boards.
The hotel also has coin operated laundry machines, a
fitness room, large pool, a restaurant and bar, free under-roof
parking and more. Information
on the Crowne Plaza can be found on the Internet at our site
www.bowlingamericas.com/ToA_pages/headquarters_hotel_info.htm or
at www.sawgrasshotel.com.
For the hotel
reservations, we will need complete credit card information sent
to us to guarantee “first night deposit” to reserve your
rooms. No rooms will be booked without a credit card.
These forms are not on a secure site. We suggest
telephoning (1.954.577.9948) or faxing
(1-954-423-4081) your credit card information separately.
Please see our suggestion on our website of splitting credit card
information into two separate emails providers for security.
If you are submitting a federation credit card without a
person present on arrival to sign for the room charges using that
credit card, we will send you an authorization form for charges,
which must be filled out with readable credit card pictures of
both front and back of card and submitted to us for the hotel; in
this case, you would not have to send credit card info on hotel
form.
We will have
our Awards Banquet at the Crowne Plaza.
Our tournament buses will run from the Crowne Plaza to the
lanes during the week (must have tournament ID to use buses).
The hotel shuttle bus will also be available to go to the
supermarket or to the Sawgrass Mills discount mall for those who
need this transportation.
It is
imperative that you have all your hotel reservations in early. The
Hotel has given us a firm cut-off date of August 1st on our block
of 100 rooms. All reservations for rooms must be made through the
Tournament Office in order to receive our special sponsor rate (if
you call the hotel directly you will be charged their regular
rate, which is $149 per night).
Late
reservations will not be able to be placed at the Crowne Plaza.
We will book your rooms at the Crowne Plaza as soon as we
have the complete information from you until we exhaust our block
of rooms. If
necessary, we will try to book excess rooms at another nearby
hotel. However, this
hotel may be at a higher rate and our tournament buses will not
run from any hotel except the Crowne Plaza.
DRESS
CODE:
- Women
may wear black skirts, dress shorts (walking length),
or “split skirts” to match tournament shirts. Women will
not be permitted to wear slacks.
In the case of Women’s Divisions, all members of a
team must be dressed in like garments on any given day –
that is if one woman wears shorts, both must wear shorts on
that day. However,
each Woman’s Division may be different or same by their
choice - for instance, Junior’s may wear shorts on one day
while Adult Women and Senior Women choose to wear another
allowable item.
- Men
must wear black trousers.
- All
bowlers must be in official tournament shirts when on lanes.
- Delegates
and Coaches must also be in official uniform.
TOURNAMENT
SHIRTS: The
2007 shirt will be the same as last year - a poly-cotton blend –
softer and more fitted than in the past years. Our shirt order
forms have the chest sizes for the usual small, medium, etc.
sizes. Please take
this into regard as you order your new shirts to be sure of a
proper fit. Please be
aware that once the shirt is made we must charge for the shirt
even if the size is incorrect unless it is a mistake on our part.
The price of the shirt will remain at $35.00 per shirt.
The Tournament logo on the front of the shirt will be
embroidered in gold as will the person’s name, country and
country map.
Shirts
cannot be ready if ordered late, as we expect to have as many as
250 shirts to make, and late orders will cause a problem with
having a bowler in an official shirt at the start of the
tournament as per our rules.
Please order as early as possible.
If
you have a official shirt made in 2006, you need not order another
one unless you wish to.
TOURNAMENT
RESULTS: Daily
Tournament results will be available nightly in the hotel
lobby for bowlers and delegates. Final result packages will be
given to each delegate at the Award Banquet. Please fill out the
Media Forms, so that we can also arrange daily or final reports to
your local media.
Results are also posted nightly to our website.
TOURNAMENT
SCHEDULE: A
tentative Tournament schedule will be posted on our website. We
may make changes to the bowling schedule as sponsors choose to
present seminars. Please
check it for updates. The
official schedule will be in the welcome bag.
We look forward to having your country represented at 45th
Lee Evans Tournament of The Americas, in the Greater Fort
Lauderdale area. Please be sure to mail, fax or submit on-line
from our website your National Acceptance Form by July 1st,
followed by the balance of the completed forms as soon as
possible, but no later than August 1st .
We
have no office at Lanes and will only have a temporary office
during our tournaments at Tamarac Lanes.
Please keep this information for further reference when
trying to contact us. We
are sorry for any inconvenience but telephone calls can only be
answered in English at this time.
